The Polokwane Short Circuit the fastest kart track in the country with a long main straight enabling a kart to reach in excess of 160kph. The race track is built on a slight gradient, and on a pocket bike, it’s a delicate balance between choosing the correct gear ratio to allow adequate power to flick through the twisty section while not over revving down the fast main straight.
The track was recently resurfaced and has since been deemed not suitable for competition by karts and full sized motorcycles by the MSA. We took a drive up to the track late in December 2008 and completed a few hours’ worth of laps. Our lap times continued to drop without ever coming close to a fall. Tyre temperatures got as high as any other track that we race on.
The track does not have any form of club house or catering, but does have a more that adequate covered pit area with 220v power and ablution facilities.
Our verdict at the end of the day was a big thumbs up for an exciting track. After all, if pocket bikes can do it on a parking lot, then they can do it just about any ware.....
