What a day! It was amazing to see the number of newcomers interested in joining this exciting sport of ours. I had people coming up to me the whole day asking how they can get started, get their kids started etc. It was great, but probably more amazing was the fact that IT DID NOT RAIN – can you believe it. I actually got a tan, who would have thought. Let’s just hope that we have the same conditions for round 1 on the 20th February (remember it’s moved to Zwartkops and entry is open, click here).
We also had some celebs spotted in the paddock. South Africa’s very own superbike champion Sheridan Morias as well as the editor of Motorcycling SA and SBK racer Robert Portman came out for the morning. They were there to do a couple of laps on an open class bike and get a feeling of what it was like to ride a pocket bike with the track slipping past just inches from your helmet. They brought a photographer along (Just in case no one would believe them), so watch out for a future article in the mag.
And speaking of Motorcycling SA, check out the latest issue, Pg 73 for a write up on MiniMoto SA. Oh yes, and while you’re at it, flip to the last page. It’s a write up on the 2009 World 250cc Champion, Hiroshi Aoyama. Check out his riding career. Notice where his first race in 1987 was? – makes you think…

Re: Open Day
Pity about the water on the track though. Judy hope it resolved before the race day.
