Talking Pocket bikes

Well, the pre-winter part of the season ended on an all time high with the Duel In The Dark 2 at the Kyalami Kart Circuit.  What a day (or night) of action!  It was about as cold as it’s gonna get in Gauteng, give or take a few degrees but I don’t think that the riders felt it.  And can you believe it, the rain stayed away and we managed to get round 4 complete (although at times the clouds over the Pretoria West are did look a little dodge). So now we’re going into 2 months of no racing.  I don’t know what I going to do with myself.  I guess that I’ll have to buy a vuvuzela and get into the swing of things along with the rest of South Africa – if you can’t beat them, join them.  I’ll definitely make some time to go out to practice during this break, as will a lot of other people, so keep checking the Practice Schedule page so that you can join in.  Until then, it’ll be soccer, MotoGP / WSBK re-runs and the odd braai with friends that’ll occupy...

It’s been a while since I have had time to write anything, my backup drive crashed (while I was re-installing my PC) and I lost everything, and I mean EVERYTHING.  So as you can imagine, my energy has been focused else ware for the last while. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t find some time to sit down and watch round 1 of the WSBK championship at Phillip Island.  I love watching WSBK and it seems like there’s a whole bunch of new talent around this year, gonna be a great season.  But sitting there I couldn’t help getting totally amped for Bloem.  I’ve ridden there once before but it was so long ago I can hardly remember (besides that my brain wasn’t functioning that well after Lloyd and myself came together in a spectacular crash early on in the day). Going to a new track and having 48 hours to pull it all together really makes for a spectacular weekend, for competitors and spectators – it’s like the pressure is on! I see the entry list is not looking so hot at the moment, but this year there’s...

I’ve been back in Joburg for about 4 days now.  The South Coast, and more precisely, Banana Beach was great, a perfect blend of sunshine, cloud, braai and beer.  Your trusty timekeeper (and occasional rider) Quintus, his family and myself and my family decided to go down and spend 7 fun filled days forgetting about pocket bikes, gym and work and unwind for a while.  It worked so well that it was hard to keep track of the day of the week.  We spoke about pocket bikes for a grand total of 1 hour, and it was basically just setting goals for 2010.  Do you want to know what a couple of them are…

Hey man, what a jol of an evening the 2009 Prize Giving and Yearend function was.  What a huge turnout - thanks to everyone that made it.  The week before the event I was inundated with emails and phone call from riders that hadn’t booked online but still wanted to come along.  Phone calls to and from the venue trying different layouts to create more space, I was worried that we wouldn’t all fit in.  It turns out everything was perfect.  Even the weather (that looked bad at one point), played it’s part. Team of the year 2009 - Team X-Box Rider of the year 2009 - Robert Mynhardt...

With just a couple of days to go until the year end 2009 function, I am amazed by level of enthusiasm that riders have for 2010.  I would have thought that the guys and girls were tired, the year is over and that they’d park their pocket bike plans until next year.  Well so much for that.  Just about everyone that I have spoken to is already making plans for the 2010 series.  We will be welcoming back a couple of riders from a few years ago that have bought competitive bikes and are planning on mixing it up next year.  Teams are being setup as we speak and sponsorships of bikes etc. being put in place – it’s chaos out there! It’s all good and I, along with everyone else out there it seems, certainly am amped for next year.  We are getting a great response from the survey so please keep the opinions coming, if you’re one of the riders that haven’t completed the survey, please take 10 minutes and give us your thoughts.

And then plans are coming together...

MiniMoto is a constant buzz....just when the racing comes to an end, there’s a whole lot more to start sorting out. Yearend function and prize giving, new website, negotiations around race dates for the next year, trying not to clash. Clifford & Quintus locked in discussion at Polokwane round 3 We’re always looking at ways to improve and give competitors and teams the best season out there. Next year will be no different. We’ve posted up a survey and ask for your feedback and comments...
